Auckland Cricket is looking for 100 new umpires.

Great cricket opportunities could be yours.

All our competitions are in demand for umpires, it is easy to get started.

All levels of cricket competitions have openings for umpires, so you can be starting within a couple of weeks. You can be based with your local club, or immediately join the Auckland Umpires Association.
Your first session is next Monday 14th September – 6.00 – 8.00 p.m.
Eden Park – In the Bert Sutcliffe Lounge (under the old stand on the Outer Oval.)
Enter at Gate K – off the Sandringham Road carpark.

PRE-SEASON
Auckland Cricket, and now most clubs, are offering a one-evening introduction course for Community Umpires – your first step to becoming an active umpire. After only one evening you should be ready to take the field in club junior games. With a few more sessions, you will be joining another umpire for school games, men and women’s competition matches.

The next course is on 14th September at Eden Park. Just let us know if you are attending. Call, email or text today.

This two-hour session gives you the confidence and skills to take the field knowing your role as an umpire. We will teach what decisions you need to make for a basic cricket match. We concentrate more on practical requirements preparing for your first appointment.

WHAT DO I NEED TO START?
To train – Bring a notebook and pen – we supply the rest.
To umpire – You need a basic understanding of cricket, some mainly white shoes, black trousers and a good hat. We will help with the rest of the equipment and teach you basic umpiring skills and knowledge. Training is free.

HOW MUCH TIME WILL I NEED TO SPEND?
We offer appointments to games that last from a couple of hours to most of a morning, an afternoon, mid-week or up to a 7 hour day. You choose the type of cricket that suits you. We even have ‘umpiring teams’ that can share a game – so gather a couple of friends and work together within your local club if travel is a problem.

WHAT DO I DO FIRST?
Attend a Community Umpires Evening or an after school course. The next course is at Eden Park on September 14th.
Register with Doug Cowie at Auckland Cricket first.

ACCREDITATION
Once you have joined an umpiring group and are actively involved, you can apply to register and undertake the Auckland Umpiring Accreditation – Level 2 training. This is a self-paced, competency-based programme to prepare you for situations you will face as an umpire. Some people achieve this level within two or three weeks and start being paid for their umpiring. We offer training every second Monday during the season.

SENIOR LEVEL 2 & 3 UMPIRES
Auckland Cricket recruits umpires to its competition panels from the Community programme and also introduces those with solid cricket backgrounds into a fast track programme that will have you umpiring senior matches within a few weeks. Prospective professional career umpires all start here – and the best will make it through that pathway to the top. The Auckland region is currently home to seven of the top 10 umpies in New Zealand.

Call or Email today to book your place on next Monday’s course or to find the next club course in your area. You will be umpiring in October!
